Now Hiring – Patient Financial Services - Financial Counselor

Location: Remote

Radiology Regional is one of the largest physician-driven diagnostic imaging providers, with 13 imaging centers, in Southwest Florida. Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Patient Financial Services Manager, the Patient Financial Services Specialist performs those duties directly involving obtaining insurance eligibility, exam prior- authorization, and time-of-service (TOS) estimations. Utilize various office procedures, software, access payer portals and use of IVR phone system, related to verification, authorization, and TOS, in radiology industry. Provide services with attention to detail and with guest services being the primary objective. Perform other related duties within job classification or organization as necessary or as assigned by management.

  •  Verify and assess patient’s eligibility for benefits involving health insurance coverage. 
  • Obtain prior authorizations promptly for both scheduled and unscheduled medical procedures to ensure proper reimbursement for imaging services.  
  • Obtain and provide Good Faith time-of-service estimations to patients, detailing the cost associated with their procedures.  
  • Coordinate information from the patient (when necessary), other office staff, clinical staff, and physician as needed to complete the verification/prior authorization process.  
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information, records, including patient care information according to HIPAA guidelines.  
  • Engage in financial conversations with patients, explaining procedure details, benefits, and the Good Faith estimate of out-of-pocket expenses.  
  • Accurately identify procedure codes (CPT codes) to calculate the patient's financial obligation.  
  • Identify patient co-pay, coinsurance, and deductible information due at the time of service.  
  • Verify in-network and out-of-network insurance coverage and benefits utilizing all available verification and eligibility tools including fax, phone calls, and insurance carrier web portals.  
  • Contact insurance companies to obtain authorizations for medical procedures.

Requirements

  • Operating standard office equipment like computers, copiers, phones, and calculators.  
  • Analytical skills to navigate and interpret basic to complex information; determine methods of appropriate procedures of obtaining eligibility, authorizations, and estimations.
  • Skills to interpret and communicate regarding medical insurance coverage and information.  
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills. 
  • Background/experience with personal computers and software related to medical billing operations. 
  • Medical and insurance terminology knowledge.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. 
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED  
  • Required: Minimum six-months experience practical medical and/or eligibility, authorizations experience.   
  • Required: Computer and phone experience.  
  • Recommended: Customer service experience; radiology industry experience a plus.
