Paver/Roller Operator

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Paver/Roller Operator to join our paving crew. The Paver/Roller Operator will be responsible for operating pavers and rollers to assist in the placement, leveling, and compaction of asphalt materials for paving projects. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality work on roadways, parking lots, and other construction projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating paving equipment, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate paver machinery to lay asphalt for the construction of roadways, parking lots, and other paved surfaces.


• Use roller equipment to compact and smooth asphalt following the placement of materials, ensuring the correct density and surface texture.


• Work closely with the paving crew and project manager to ensure paving operations are completed on time and according to project specifications.


• Monitor the quality of the asphalt mixture and the overall condition of the paver and roller equipment, reporting any issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.


• Adjust settings on paver and roller machines to ensure proper material distribution and compaction.


• Ensure materials are placed evenly and uniformly to meet project specifications for thickness and surface smoothness.


• Assist in the preparation of the construction site, including verifying the layout and ensuring that the work area is safe for operation.


• Conduct pre-operation checks and perform basic maintenance on paving and compaction equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and refueling machinery.


• Adhere to all safety guidelines and company policies to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and the crew.


• Coordinate with other equipment operators, truck drivers, and laborers to ensure smooth workflow on the job site.


• Maintain proper communication with the supervisor and team to report progress, delays, or safety concerns.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Paver and/or Roller Operator, preferably in a paving or construction environment.


• Familiarity with operating asphalt pavers and rollers, and knowledge of basic machine functions and troubleshooting.


• Ability to understand and follow complex instructions and blueprints to achieve project specifications.


• Strong understanding of safety procedures and equipment operation in a construction zone.


• Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks on paving and roller equipment.


• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus, but not required.


• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods and working in various weather conditions.


• Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.


• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in the paving industry or with asphalt.


• Certifications related to equipment operation or safety in construction.


• Experience with GPS or other automated paving systems.

Working Conditions:

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.


• Work may be performed in construction zones with potential hazards.
