Job Description - Payroll Specialist

Description

Are you looking for a company with a great culture, teamwork, and opportunity for growth?  We are 5812 Investment Group, a residential property company since 1979 with more than 6000 units and growing. 

  

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical payroll professional with 2 years of payroll processing experience (exceptionally skilled candidates with less experience may be considered). This role is heavily involved in bi-weekly payroll processing and quarterly off-cycle payrolls, requiring strong auditing and processing capabilities. This person needs to have a strong desire to be in an environment of continuous improvement and learning.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in payroll processing, auditing payroll registers, and verifying employee data (new hires, terminations, changes) in systems like Paylocity.
  • Experience with payroll preparation includes retroactive calculations and document/system reviews.
  • High attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to manage time effectively to meet strict deadlines.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive, task-oriented duties with consistency and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the desire to learn and research into the “why” behind an issue and/or error.
  • Strong understanding of HRIS, Payroll, and Time & Attendance systems and functionality.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially written and email communication.
  • Experience handling confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Team Player both within the payroll team itself and to other departments. Provides other departments with excellent customer service by addressing needs with prompt professionalism.  
  • Ability to work on projects both independently and on a team.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and .CSV files).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Teams, and Adobe.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems; Paylocity experience preferred.
  • Exposure to accounting software such as RealPage is a plus.
  • Experience with creating and reviewing payroll reports

Additional Experience (Preferred):

  • Understanding of payroll tax regulations; experience with Ohio and local taxes is a plus.
  • Understanding of cost centers, general ledger, and payroll accounting (can be trained).
  • Experience with Garnishments
  • Invoicing processing experience.

Work Schedule: Mon – Friday, flexible start time between 7 am – 8:30 am. Needs to be able to accommodate adjusting work schedule for payroll and one-day payroll deadlines (typically starting earlier in the morning). Working in the Minnesota office during the first 90 days and working in the Minnesota office during payroll processing days. After 90 day introductory period then 2 days a week can be work from home (non-payroll processing days).
