Payroll Specialist
evolvedMD is a growing healthcare organization committed to improving access to high-quality care across the country. The Payroll Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a multi-state workforce. This role will own end-to-end payroll processing while also supporting back-end benefits administration and partnering closely with Accounting on payroll tax filings and audits. The Payroll Specialist will sit on the People / HR Team and report to the VP, People.
The ideal candidate brings strong multi-state payroll experience, deep knowledge of payroll laws and best practices, and a collaborative mindset suited for a growing organization.
Location: This position will be in-person based out of evolvedMD’s corporate headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ
Compensation
- First-year compensation $65,000 to $85,000 annually (DOE)
- Bonuses driven by self-care, professional development, and individual KPIs
- $1,200 annual technology allowance
- 401(k) company match up to 3%
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
- Process full-cycle, multi-state payroll for a growing organization of fewer than 300 employees
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and withholdings
- Maintain payroll records in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Administer off-cycle payrolls as needed (bonuses, corrections, terminations, etc.)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related employee inquiries
Compliance, Tax, and Audit Support
- Maintain strong knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices across multiple states
- Partner with Accounting on payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and audits (including benefits & 401k)
- Conduct Labor Allocation audits and ensure data accuracy
- Support internal and external payroll-related audits
- Assist with payroll compliance as the company expands into new states
Benefits & Back-End Administration
- Support benefits and 401k administration from a payroll perspective, including:
- Payroll deductions and reconciliations
- Carrier file reviews
- Benefits-related reporting and audits
- Collaborate with People / HR and Accounting to ensure payroll and benefits data alignment
Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilize payroll systems efficiently; experience with UKG is strongly preferred
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and documentation
- Support scalability and process improvements as the company grows
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on payroll experience
- Experience running multi-state or national payroll
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws, compliance requirements, and best practices
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting and People / HR teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and discretion with confidential information
Preferred
- Experience with UKG and other major Payroll/HRIS systems
- Experience supporting payroll in a growing or scaling organization
- Healthcare or multi-state professional services experience a plus
