The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) is in search of a Payroll Specialist. This position will process payroll and audit time records to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements. Those with technical experience in payroll policies and procedures or professional payroll administration are encouraged to apply.
Basic Purpose
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for assigned employees within the agency. This position ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and agency policies while maintaining the integrity of payroll and timekeeping data. The Payroll Specialist works collaboratively with Human Resources, supervisors, and employees to resolve payroll-related issues, administer compensation and leave processes, and support overall payroll operations.

Minimum Qualifications
Level I - Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree plus one year of professional payroll administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional payroll experience for each year of the required bachelor’s degree. No substitution will be made for the required 1 year of professional payroll administration experience.
Level II - Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree plus two years of professional payroll administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional payroll experience for each year of the required bachelor’s degree. No substitution will be made for the required 2 years of professional payroll administration experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:
Level I - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities at this level include knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Skills required at this level include time management; record maintenance; and basic payroll management policies and procedures. Abilities required at this level include the ability to work both independently and in a team environment; work accurately; handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions; interpret and handle routine matters in accordance with agency policy; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others; and provide exceptional customer service.
