Job Description - Payroll Specialist

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform administrative Payroll and Human Resources functions for Transportation staff including keying staff payroll, attendance, FMLA, OSHA reporting, workers compensation, recordkeeping and creating reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews and keys payroll records for all department employees.
Maintains and updates needed human resources actions and classifications in appropriate systems.
Maintains records and assists with processing necessary actions/documents for employee leaves, accidents, resignations, and new hires.
Handles incoming telephone calls and responds to messages timely.
Creates and prepares various weekly and monthly reports utilizing Excel.
Travel within the district as required to pick up reports/information to ensure regulatory compliance.
Prepares and processes invoices for all special programs labor.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to process work, forms, and materials involving numbers with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with employee pay records and discussing medical concerns.
Ability to set up organizational processes and files related to workers compensation, FMLA records, timesheets, payroll records, correspondence, OSHA compliance etc.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with School Bus Drivers, Supervisors and District Administrative Staff.
Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written forms.
Ability to plan and organize work in order to met established deadlines and professional staff requirements.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Docs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum: Associates Degree in Business Management, Computer Systems, Accounting, or related field PLUS one year work experience utilizing automated systems and dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desirable: Associates Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field PLUS one year administrative support work experience that includes knowledge of AS400, Synovia, EPASS and HRMS programs.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

Valid NC Driver's License and clean driving record.

Pay Grade 62 - $2,755.95 Monthly Salary - Full Time Position
