Job Description - Payroll Specialist | National

Compudopt is a national non-profit organization providing technology access and education to under-resourced youth and their communities. We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to process payroll information, perform payroll audits, and serve as a point of contact for payment, policies, and procedures questions. This entry-level position will liaise between Finance and HR, ensuring accurate preparation, documentation, distribution, and reconciliation of payroll and administration of the payroll system. The role includes reviewing pay computations and associated deductions for accuracy.

This hybrid/remote role is based in Atlanta, GA or Houston, TX
The Payroll Specialist must act with integrity, be committed to achieving organizational goals, take responsibility for mission achievement, demonstrate accountability by starting with yes, and demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others.
Major Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Compile, process, and transmit payroll accurately and timely in accordance with payroll calendars and state and federal regulations.
Audit employee time and labor data, interacting with supervisors to verify and resolve discrepancies.
Respond to and resolve inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting.
Escalate payroll issues promptly.
Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
Communicate with Paycor and payroll vendors to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
Enter and audit designated leave issuances and submissions via the Paycor platform.
Administer 403B contributions, loan payments, and electronic funds transfers semi-monthly in compliance with organizational guidelines and federal regulations.
Administer electronic deposits and cash funding reports for payroll.
Ensure payroll reports are securely downloaded and data is maintained confidentially.
Extract and import payroll data into the financial system after each payroll.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, establishing tax and unemployment accounts as necessary.
Process payroll-related expenses and reimbursements.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation affecting payroll.
Collaborate with HR on employee data for new hires, terminations, deductions, TDI, Workers Comp, and other deductions as needed.
Produce various reports from the HRIS system when requested.
Assist HR with onboarding duties, including granting software access and inputting data as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:
High school diploma or GED
A minimum of two years of experience in payroll processing.
Preferred:

Three or more years of electronic payroll processing experience including garnishment and payroll taxes.
Associate’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Proven ability to complete work accurately and with attention to detail.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work on multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Airtable, Box, and other payroll software.
Professional, organized, detail-oriented, and customer service oriented.
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Salary is one component of Compudopt’s total compensation package, which also includes:
