Our client, a boutique tax and bookkeeping firm in Marion, Iowa, takes pride in delivering personal, professional, and timely service to their clients. They’re seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Payroll / Bookkeeping & Office Assistant who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and grow with the team.
Position Overview
They are ideally seeking someone with payroll processing experience (entering hours, handling withholdings, reconciling reports, and filing 941s). That said, if you’re a recent grad or someone naturally skilled with numbers, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
Payroll & Bookkeeping
Process payroll for multiple clients: enter hours, verify accuracy, reconcile reports
Manage tax withholdings, deposits, withdrawals, and quarterly/annual filings (including Form 941)
Assist with bookkeeping tasks such as reconciliations, invoicing, and data entry
Client & Office Support
Welcome clients in person and by phone
Manage calendars, appointments, and client documents
Keep office files organized (digital and paper)
Support CRM/marketing updates and general office coordination
Operational Support
Assist owners with vendor coordination, internal projects, and documentation
Help refine office procedures for efficiency
Provide coverage and support during tax season, including coordination as needed with part-time seasonal help
What We’re Looking For
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability
Payroll processing experience preferred (or transferable skills and motivation to learn)
Comfort with technology (QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, payroll platforms like ADP/Gusto/Paychex, or similar)
Excellent communication and client service skills
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
Bookkeeping or accounting experience a plus, but not required
Schedule & Hours
Non-Tax Season (May – December):
Mon–Thu: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Fri: 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM (Slight flexibility available for school hours/appointments with consistent coverage)
Tax Season (January – April):
Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (primary shift)
Occasional Saturday coverage 8:30 AM-2:00 PM
Additional Responsibility:
Help cover and/or oversee a part-time, seasonal Front Desk Support to provide after-hours coverage:
Monday – Thursday, 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM
Friday, 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Saturday, 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Ensure continuity of service and communication between day and evening coverage
Support coordination of front desk tasks and workflows during peak client times
