PBX Operator

The Switchboard Operator is responsible for responding to emergency codes, managing the hospital alarm system, and performing various clerical duties. S/he answers, screens, and transfers all incoming calls appropriately, timely and efficiently. Responsible for gathering the correct demographic information, necessary billing information, and distributing the required regulatory information for all patients seeking treatment or testing in all departments. S/he registers patients and verifies insurance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operates the switchboard and intercom to relay incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls and messages.
• Furnishes information/ phone numbers to callers as requested or makes sufficient inquiries necessary to refer the caller to the appropriate hospital personnel.
• Manages the hospital alarm system and responds to emergency alarms, including fire and oxygen alarms.
• Performs general clerical duties, such as faxing, copying and filing.
• Provide lunch coverage for registrars as assigned by Dept Director or Supervisor.
• Assist patients with providing estimates for procedures to be performed using estimator.
• Update patient statuses as assigned by Dept Director, Supervisor, Case Management etc.
• Scan daily cash reconciliation forms
• Scan daily census reconciliation forms
• Must maintain a 95% or higher on QA scorecards.
• Other duties as assigned.

DUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED
• Basic understanding of telephone switchboard and PBX equipment and systems

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• At least 6 months switchboard/ PBX or equivalent customer service experience
