COMPENSATION: 


Starting Salary for this position is determined by the HOLLA School Salary Schedule. This is a full time, exempt position. Salary is in addition to full medical, vision, and dental insurance, and PERS retirement benefit contributions (eligible immediately for current PERS participants, eligible 6 months after employment begins for new PERS participants). Additionally, teachers receive weekly professional development that can be counted towards licensure requirements for TSPC. 


ABOUT THIS POSITION: 


We are searching for kind, innovative, passionate and creative teachers to join our school team! An ideal applicant will share philosophical beliefs that all children inherently possess abundance, brilliance and creativity. HOLLA School teachers will prepare lessons that are robust and based on HOLLA School’s identified instructional frameworks such as Gholdy Muhammad’s “Cultivating Genius” and the empirical evidence and research of Zaretta Hammond, “Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain”. 


The PE & Health Teacher facilitates a learning environment that honors the diverse cultural backgrounds, traditions, and physical identities of all scholars. This role is responsible for meeting Oregon Department of Education’s mandatory instructional minutes for PE while delivering a Health curriculum that integrates state standards (including Erin’s Law) with culturally specific wellness practices. The teacher will prioritize group collaboration and community-based health models over individual competition.


GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

HOLLA School teachers are sound practitioners with broad knowledge bases of how elementary children learn and are aware of current pedagogical shifts that include unpacking hidden or subconscious bias, and specific experience supporting and instructing children experiencing neurodivergence and/or ASD. Additionally, HOLLA School teachers are already trained in or willing to take necessary steps to learn the eight elements of SB-13, which is the Tribal History/Shared History curriculum created by Indigenous educators in the state of Oregon. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 



  • Establish rapport and build relationships with scholars based on trust. 

  • Embody a teaching approach that is reflective, allowing for an ongoing learning and awareness of self, scholars, and teaching practice

  • Ensure all K-5 scholars receive at least 150 minutes of Physical Education per school week.

  • Maintain a curriculum where at least 50% of instructional time is dedicated to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

  • Document and report instructional minutes in alignment with Oregon Department of Education (ODE) Division 22 standards.

  • Deliver the mandatory four lessons per year of child sexual abuse prevention (Erin’s Law), ensuring instruction is trauma-informed, healing centered and culturally sensitive to various family structures and traditions.

  • Implement Health Education that meets Oregon standards for nutrition, mental health, and healthy relationships, utilizing medically accurate and inclusive materials.

  • In Health lessons, incorporate culturally specific views on nutrition, such as food sovereignty and the role of ancestral/native foods in community wellness.

  • Ability to navigate sensitive health topics (safety, boundaries, anatomy) with a focus on scholar agency and psychological safety.

  • Foster an environment that honors all body types and abilities, utilizing Adaptive PE techniques to ensure every scholar is a full participant in the group.

  • Observe, guide, supervise, and gauge children’s skills acquisition while they learn. 

  • Develop summative assessments identified in the HOLLA School charter contract: rubrics, checklists, and criteria for portfolios. These rubrics are based on available Common Core State Standards and culturally responsive, and sustaining pedagogical practices. 

  • Participate in various meetings including professional development, conferences, IEP meetings, for the purpose of learning, collaborating, providing information, etc. 


 


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: 


● Create and maintain a safe, clean, stimulating learning environment where all children feel safe and valued.


● Set an excellent example for scholars while encouraging values like empathy, collectivism, community, understanding, respect, love, and kindness. 


● Monitor and assess scholar progress and write up reports. 


● Ensure PE supplies and equipment are available and in working condition, and all physical spaces used for Health and PE instruction are clean and organized. 


● Various administrative tasks as needed.


● Participate in school activities and supervise scholars on field trips. 


● Understand exceptionalities that some scholars experience, the ability to develop and carry forth 504s and Individualized Education Plans, set assets-based goals and monitor individual scholar progress in the least restrictive environment. 


● Other duties as assigned.


TEACHER CREDENTIALS AND REQUIREMENTS: 



  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood teaching, education, or related discipline. Valid Oregon Teaching License with PE and Health endorsements.

  • Strong ability to work within a teaching team to integrate health themes across other subject areas

  • All HOLLA School Staff are subject to a pre-employment background check as well as on an ongoing basis. 

  • Experience with children experiencing neurodivergence/ASD

  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification 

  • Knowledgeable of current K-5 Standards based on Common Core.

  • Versed in how to create multiple opportunities for children to demonstrate what they know and to be given access to demonstrate mastery criteria in culturally responsive and sustaining alternative formats. 

  • Additional courses, training or endorsements in special education, early childhood, English Language Learners

  • Passionate about education as an ever-evolving practice. 

  • Ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities. 

  • Experience working with emerging bilinguals and their families. 

  • Patience and excellent observational, communication, and diagnostic skills. 

  • The ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with love and respect. 

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous growth, including reflection, curiosity, and the ability to give and receive feedback as a crucial element in the process of ongoing learning. 

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of extended standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs.
