Institutional Overview and Culture

The Pediatric Critical Care division at UMGCH serves a high-acuity population of more than 1,000 patients per year. Our team practices a deeply integrated, family-centered model of care that embeds patient and family support directly into daily clinical workflows and communication.

Following a landmark $50 million gift—the largest philanthropic contribution in the history of the medical system—the hospital formally joined the prestigious Golisano Children's Alliance, a national coalition of premier pediatric facilities that fuels multi-institutional collaboration, advanced clinical program expansion, and the acceleration of breakthrough research.

This funding directly supports our upcoming expansion into the Stoler Center for Advanced Medicine, integrating state-of-the-art critical care facilities and cutting-edge therapies under a single, child-centered roof. The division maintains an active academic and research presence through participation in national collaborative networks, including the PALISI Network, PC4, and Virtual Pediatric Systems. Faculty participate in active research initiatives in global health, blood physiology, hemostasis, and artificial blood development.

Location and Lifestyle

We are located near Baltimore's vibrant downtown Inner Harbor, just one of the city's many outstanding attractions—from fine arts and orchestras to professional sports teams, first-class dining and shopping, and a wealth of historical sites. Positioned strategically in the mid-Atlantic region, our location provides unique geographic flexibility\: Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City are all within easy reach, as is a short drive to the Atlantic coast beaches or the mountains to the west. The area offers excellent regional educational options, along with access to family-friendly suburban neighborhoods, historic districts, and dynamic urban living.
