Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse to join an outpatient surgery center in Richmond, Texas. The PACU RN will provide comprehensive postoperative care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safety, comfort, and readiness for discharge.
This position works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other members of the perioperative team to deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Receive and assess pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia.
Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, airway status, pain levels, and overall condition throughout the recovery period.
Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately to postoperative or anesthesia-related complications.
Administer prescribed medications, including pain medication, and implement appropriate pain-management strategies.
Maintain airway support and provide oxygen therapy as needed.
Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the surgical team.
Assess patients' physical, psychosocial, cognitive, cultural, and comfort needs.
Determine patient readiness for discharge or transfer based on established clinical criteria.
Provide clear postoperative and discharge instructions to patients and family members.
Ensure required supplies, medications, and equipment are available and ready for use.
Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all nursing care provided.
Operate designated clinical equipment in accordance with facility policies.
Support patient-safety, quality-improvement, and regulatory-compliance initiatives.
Assist with preoperative nursing responsibilities when needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Active and unrestricted Texas Registered Nurse license.
Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current PALS certification, based on center requirements.
Previous ambulatory surgery center experience.
Strong pediatric assessment, communication, and patient-education skills.
Preferred Qualifications
At least two years of nursing experience.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing.
Previous pediatric PACU, PreOp, or perioperative nursing experience.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has experience caring for pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia and is confident in airway assessment, postoperative monitoring, pain management, emergency response, and family education. They should be dependable, attentive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment.
