Peeler Technician - Apple

Department:  Apple Plant

Status: Non-exempt

Employee Classification:  Regular Full-time

Reports To:  Plant Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

Shift: 3:30pm to 3:30am, 4 days per week (includes weekends)

Job Summary:  The apple peelers machines are the heartbeat of the Apple Production System.  This position is responsible for maintaining apple peelers, sorters, dicers, and supporting apple production equipment to ensure customer orders are fulfilled consistently and in a timely fashion.

Essential Functions:

1. 
   
   
   
   1. Perform all tasks in a safe manner.  This is not only an essential function but a condition of employment.
   
   
   2. Adhere to all company policies, GMPs, and SOPs
   
   
   3. The ability to work with a team, understand and apply basic mechanical concepts and accept training and constructive criticism are imperative.  The following functions are expected to be achievable with reasonable training and guidance.
   
   
   4. Set up and ensure proper operation of apple peelers, dicers, sorters and supporting equipment.
   
   
   5. Monitor product, adjust and repair general equipment as needed for efficient operation.
   
   
   6. Maintain a clean and organized work space.
   
   
   7. Recommend replacement and spare parts.
   
   
   8. Perform sanitation on peelers and other equipment as needed.
   
   
   9. Work closely with new hires, train, evaluate and document their progress to ensure they are capable of performing maintenance functions prior to allowing them to work on equipment unsupervised.
   
   
   
   

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ability to read and understand equipment manuals.


2. Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.


3. Ability to use basic hand and power tools.


4. Ability to trouble shoot and repair various equipment in a safe and timely matter.


5. High mechanical aptitude is required.


6. Bi-Lingual Spanish is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions/Physical Factors:

1. Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.


2. Occasionally required to push/pull/lift weights up to 50 pounds


3. Worker may be exposed to a loud working environment.


4. Worker may be exposed to hazards in the work place such as proximity to equipment conducting extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, and electrical current.


5. Must be able to work in environment containing allergens (nuts, milk, wheat, etc.)


6. Must be able to stand/walk/talk/hear/sit for prolonged periods of time.
