Summary and Range of Authority: Under the direction of the Program Manager of the CVRT program, the Peer Navigator will provide in home support to families experiencing trauma or victims of gang violence in Southeast San Diego.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide assistance with access to resources, such as, but not limited to: applying to emergency or transitional housing, public assistance programs, access to mental health services and wrap-around, Victim Assistance Program advocates when crime cases exists.
Provide stipends for emergency food, clothes or transportation, etc as needed.
Provide one on one support to families experiencing trauma or victims of gang violence
Develop a support plan that outlines needs of families and steps to meet the needs. Assess for sense of safety and stabilization at intake and at exit of services.
Work in partnership with law enforcement, faith based community, educational providers and mental health providers.
Conduct a professional training to faith based groups, mental health professionals, community responders, and others serving victims of gang/organized crime violence
Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to promote overall wellness of children at risk and their families.
Attend regular staff meetings and trainings and community meetings as it relates to the youth
Prepare documentation, reports, and records of services provided and its outcomes.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications/Licenses and Language/Cultural Skills:
· Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
· Must have a valid CA driver’s license and comprehensive auto insurance coverage as required by law.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications Required:
Lived experience of community and/or gang violence
One year of experience in gang and violence prevention activities amongst diverse communities and families.
One year successful experience in community and media advocacy.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, inter-agency environment.
Ability to provide crisis intervention, consultation, education, advocacy, community organization and follow up services.
Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to use sound judgment and function effectively and calmly in stressful situations or times of crisis.
Ability to interact effectively with the public.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to sensitive or proprietary information or materials.
Working knowledge of the Central Region of San Diego and surrounding communities.
Must demonstrate intermediate level of computer literacy and experience using office productivity software (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email programs).
Will not be debarred or excluded from participation in Federal programs by the General Services Administration and/or the Department of Health and Human Services of the Inspector General.
Must submit fingerprints and receive clearance on criminal record background check

Bilingual in English and Spanish

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Spends approximately 70% of work time sitting and meeting with others or working at a desk and/or computer. Spends approximately 30% of work time standing or walking within the work area or outside the office at meetings and events, also bends, twists, stoops and reaches. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. Regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently is required to use hands to touch, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Working conditions are normal for an office environment and event venues. The noise level is usually moderate.
