Job Description - Peer Support Coordinator

Peer Support Coordinator 


 


Position Summary: 


The Peer Support Coordinator (PSC) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the Peer Support offered through various programs at Project ABLE. This role is the front face to participants looking for Peer Support and Staff or Volunteer Peer Support Sepcialists. It is a position where you need to be firm in your recovery and passionate about supporting others in finding their path to recovery. You need to have an open mind, an open heart, an ability to simultaneously provide great customer service and also hold the peer supports you work closely with accountable. Additionally the Peer Support cooridnator works closely with the Wellness coordinator to make sure groups and activities in the Mac Office are running smoothly. 




This is a hard but fun position where you will have alot of opportunities to take on new and exciting tasks and also need to put on many hats. The staff in McMinnville is small and your role will need to be able to work independently and reach out with questions.




Hours: 


35-40 hours per week

Helpful skills to mention: 




    • Passion for Recovery and seeing others thrive!

    • Lived experience with mental health struggles and a willingness to share and be vulnerable with these

    • Outgoing personality and willingness to learn volunteer management skills. 

    • Current training in PSS (Peer Support Specialist) or the ability to get certified. 

    • Peer Support Experience

    • Good Read of people and exceptional interpersonal skills. 

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

    • Ability to lead through empowerment. 

    • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work 

    • Strong work ethic and positive attitude. 

    • Excellent computer skills with desired proficiency of Microsoft Office suite, internet research and other cloud-based programs – quick to learn  

    • Enjoys working independently and as a team player 

    • Ability to work well with a diverse population 




    Responsibilities for Peer Support Coordinator:
     


    Assign volunteers to individuals for Peer Support in your program.  



    • Ensure accurate and on-time reporting for all programs 

    • Conduct "Welcomes" with all interested individuals and assess their needs. 

    • Attend volunteer and facilitator meetings 

    • Provide regular and in-depth updates about program scope, schedule, and costs associated with activities to management.  


    Facilitate Quality Peer Support  



    • Actively identify opportunities to connect with peers visiting Project ABLE and provide appropriate support 

    • Recruit, screen, interview all volunteers to assess suitability  

    • Attend weekly peer support specialist meetings, and staff meetings 

    • Make monthly check-ins to all Volunteers letting them know about upcoming events and new/interesting groups they might be interested in inviting their peers to – brainstorming ways to be invitational with peers around new activities - and checking in on administrative issues such as PSS expiration date, CEUs, PSS/Volunteer meeting attendance, Credentialling/Paperwork needs.  A chance to see if there are things, we offer that they are interested in.  

    • Lead activity groups for participants and collaborate with Chief Training Officer to train facilitators. 

    • Provide interim Peer Support for individuals not yet connected to a peer  

    • Provide on-going Peer Support for up to three individuals that are difficult to find a match for. 


    Facilitate activities/events 



    • Work with Chief Training Officer and Chief of Staff to identify recovery-related Wellness activities for the monthly calendar  

    • Maintain a robust well-balanced calendar of groups and activities that are responsive to the types of information the community is interested in. 

    • Remain current regarding curriculum and keep organized.  

    • Maintain folders for all activities weekly or monthly and update as needed 

    • Facilitate all activities offered until a facilitator is found then co-facilitate as needed  

    • Develop appropriate instructions and provide materials for activities  

    • Identify and train volunteers or staff to substitute as facilitators as needed  

    • Identify and implement opportunities that will increase awareness of and attendance at activities  

    • Provide outreach support   



    • Staff ABLE Tables at events and activities, as assigned 


    Provide administrative support   



    • Answer phones and/or staff the reception desk as needed  

    • Provide filing, data entry, and light housekeeping as needed  

    • Work with other Project ABLE staff and volunteers to maintain a clean, welcoming office environment. 

    • Other Duties as assigned
