Job Description - Peer Support Doula - New Castle County
Location: New Castle County, Delaware Position Type: Full-Time Schedule: Monday through Friday; hours may vary based on client needs
About the Role: The Peer Support Doula serves as a compassionate, trauma-informed support for pregnant and postpartum individuals impacted by substance use disorder (SUD), trauma, or justice involvement. This unique role combines peer recovery support and doula care, providing emotional, physical, and informational assistance throughout the perinatal period.
Peer Support Doulas draw upon their own lived experience with recovery, trauma, or systems involvement to build trust, foster empowerment, and promote positive maternal and infant health outcomes. Services are provided through a person-centered, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approach.
Candidates must be Certified Peer Support Specialists or willing to complete certification prior to hire. Peer Support Doulas will also be supported in obtaining professional doula certification.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide emotional, physical, and informational support to pregnant and postpartum individuals affected by SUD, trauma, or justice involvement.
Utilize lived experience to offer peer mentorship, model recovery, and foster hope.
Assist clients in preparing for birth, navigating healthcare systems, and connecting to community resources.
Attend prenatal appointments, birthing experiences, and postpartum visits as appropriate.
Document services accurately and maintain confidentiality in accordance with program policies.
Participate in regular supervision, ongoing training, and quality improvement activities.
Collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations, and internal teams to support client care plans.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) or willingness to complete certification prior to hire.
Personal experience with recovery, trauma, or systems involvement.
Interest in completing professional doula training and certification (training support provided).
Strong commitment to promoting dignity, respect, and empowerment for all individuals.
Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate within a team environment.
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally to client appointments is required.
