People Resources Specialist

The People Resources Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a positive workplace culture, ensuring compliance with California labor laws, and leading recruitment efforts to attract top talent. This role focuses on employee relations, talent acquisition, and legal compliance, ensuring employees feel supported while aligning business goals with workforce needs.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

• Partner with Area and General Managers to develop job descriptions, post job openings, screen candidates, and facilitate a streamlined hiring process.
• Manage full-cycle recruiting, including job postings, interviews, offer negotiations, and onboarding processes.
• Champion inclusive and equitable hiring practices in accordance with California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).
• Coordinate new hire onboarding, ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience that aligns with our company culture and values.
• Maintain HRIS, Time Keeping System and recruiting records in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Employee Relations

• Serve as a point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and conflict resolution, handling issues with empathy, discretion, and fairness.
• Conduct thorough, timely, and legally compliant investigations into employee complaints, partnering with leadership as needed.
• Promote a respectful, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture through coaching, training, and policy enforcement.
• Track and analyze employee relations trends and recommend proactive solutions to improve engagement and retention.

California Employment Law & Compliance

• Stay up to date on California labor laws and HR best practices, including wage & hour rules, meal/rest breaks, leave laws (CFRA, PFL, etc.), and pay transparency.
• Assist with policy creation and updates to ensure company practices align with local, state, and federal employment regulations.
• Support PR audits and compliance initiatives, including I-9 verification, personnel files, wage notices, and EEO reporting.
• Educate managers and employees on relevant employment laws and compliance requirements through training and guidance.

PR Operations & Support

• Assist in supporting payroll deadlines from field and compliance audits related to labor regulations.
• Support HR leadership in implementing workplace policies, diversity initiatives, and employee training programs.
• Support employee lifecycle processes including terminations, promotions, and offboarding.
• Maintain accurate HRIS data and employee records.

• 2–4 years of progressive HR or People Operations experience, with a strong foundation in employee relations and recruitment.
• In-depth knowledge of California labor laws, HR compliance, and employee rights.
• Experience conducting investigations and handling sensitive employee matters.
• Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
• Proficiency in HRIS systems (Paylocity), applicant tracking systems (ATS), and Microsoft Office.
• PHR, SHRM-CP, or California-specific HR certification (e.g. PHRca) is a plus.
