Per Diem House Supervisor

Job Summary:

The House Supervisor under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer provides supervisory support for staff working within their shift in the absence of the other management staff. The House Supervisor acts as a clinical resource person to hospital and medical staff. This individual functions as the in-house administrative representative outside of normal business hours. The House Supervisor addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. They are responsible for handling occurrences during the shift and ensuring appropriate documentation and communication. In addition, they are responsible for managing and coordinating all elements of patient care to ensure efficient, service oriented, quality care.

• House Supervisor coverage is provided Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Per Diem House Supervisor will provide coverage during time-off needs for our full-time House Supervisors.

Essential Job Functions:

· Provides decision, supervisory, and clinical support to the staff and reports significant occurrences to the management staff of appropriate departments.

· Receives a complete unit report from all areas in the hospital and provides reports on overall house activities to administration and appropriate management personnel.

· Coordinates, delegates and re-adjusts patient assignments within each area.

· Determines priorities and coordinates activities for emergencies, admissions, transfers, and cancellations.

· Analyzes workload and staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs, adjusts as indicated.

· Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to direct or provide nursing care.

· Assists as needed to expedite patient flow. Such assistance includes assisting with patient admissions and discharges, patient registrations, and transfers. Covering lunches and serving as a second nurse while recovering patients as needed.

· Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing nursing skills and maintains clinical competencies according to facility standards.

· Communicates effectively with patients, family members, physicians, and co-workers.

· Collaborates with hospital administration, security, and other departments to promote safety and security.

· Maintains professional working relationship with other managers.

· Performs other duties as they are assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:

· Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.

· Licensed Registered Nurse in WI

· BLS certification is required upon hire.

· Must be able to achieve ACLS and PALS certification within six months of hire.

· Ability to relate and work effectively with others and willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement and that of others.

· A minimum of five (5) years’ recent nursing experience in a hospital setting is required.

· Supervisory experience is preferred.
