Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a radiologist and the Director of Diagnostic Imaging, competently performs ultrasonic imaging procedures. The sonographer must have the ability to recognize cross-sectional anatomy. Responsible for providing excellent customer service and complying with the hospital’s policies and procedures. Uses the RIS/PACS and HIS for proper recording of patient exams and dissemination of patient results. Must have vascular experience.

Qualifications:

Education/ Experience: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program. 

•  RDMS registered or eligible. If eligible, must become RDMS registered within one year of employment.

Other Requirements: Knowledge and ability to provide care based on physical and psychosocial development and safety issues related to patients of all age groups. Excellent customer services skills. Proficient computer skills required. Able to utilize HIS/RIS with ease.

Requirements

• Receives and reviews requests for ultrasound studies on the patients of all ages from infant to geriatric.
• Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements. Explains and prepares the patient and/or family for the exam requested.
• Utilizes transducers appropriately.
• Consults with the radiologist about the reading of scans and reports.
• Provides written and/or oral, unofficial reports of examinations, via ultrasound specific worksheets, medically necessary information regarding each exam to the radiologist.
• Takes representative anatomical images, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes.
• Marks images for proper definition and explanation.
• Maintains ultrasound room for optimum efficiency.
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe their responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
• Performs general clerical duties accurately.
