Summary:

The Perennial Production Assistant will be in charge of coordinating the Native plant program at Michaela Farm. This position will make sure that production of native plant stock is planned, consistent and done efficiently. This position will also help guide future planning of the natives program. In addition to the responsibilities associated with the native plant program this role will assist in annual vegetable production at Michaela Farm. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating daily with the Site Manager on daily tasks  
  • Flexibility in helping all of garden production including vegetable production, flower production and events.  
  • Assisting manage garden staff in the completion of daily operations of the garden production 
  • Responsible for coordinating native plant production 
  • Responsible for developing improvements to the native plant program year to year. 
  • Ensure all native production is seeded on time and that orders are met on time.  
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of all garden equipment and storage facilities associated with native production 
  • Coordinate delivery of product to departments.  
  • Assist with garden production records  
  • Ability to operate required equipment and machinery including; tractors, mowers, skid steer loader, other necessary implements 
  • Manages supply inventory and informs manager of any needs  
  • Manages native production areas for quality, weed control and attention to detail.   
  • Provide support services to other departments for the advancement of the mission  
  • Create educational content based on the garden as well as native plants. 
  • Regular contributor to weekly meetings.  
  • Can lead education groups as a chaperone and answer some questions 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent work experience 
  • Knowledge of sustainable and generative agricultural practices 
  • Experience with some aspects of vegetable and greenhouse food crop production 
  • Experience with Native plant propagation, production and sales. 
  • Ability to supervise and train garden staff (full time and seasonal staff/interns) 
  • Highly motivated and self-driven individual with attention to detail 
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and multitask with minimal to no supervision 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments 
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs and continually move equipment and materials commensurate with the position 
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record. 
  • Commitment to working within a functional team and collaborative culture 
  • Ability and willingness to travel to all Greenacres locations is required (these currently include, Indian Hill, OH, Miami Township Clermont Co, OH, Felicity, OH and Oldenberg, IN)
  • Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test, physical and fingerprint FBI background screen
  • Ability to work with both internal and external partners with the same or different backgrounds to ensure that all who visit Greenacres get the highest quality experience that addresses their needs
