Job Description - Performance Engineer ( Renewable)

Role Purpose

Step into a utility‑scale solar performance engineer role by supporting daily monitoring, data analysis, and performance reporting for large US solar assets. Monitor operating plants performance, identify issues propagate through the system, and how technical losses translate into financial outcomes.

This role is designed to develop future asset owners — not dashboard operators.

Core Responsibilities

Monitoring & Data Integrity

  • Perform daily monitoring of utility-scale PV plants through SCADA and performance platforms.
  • Conduct first-level alarm triage, log issues, and escalate as needed.
  • Validate production, availability, performance ratio, and curtailment data.
  • Maintain clean and organized event logs and performance databases.

Performance Analysis

  • Support investigations into underperformance at the inverter, block, or tracker level.
  • Assist with loss analysis and basic root-cause assessments.
  • Contribute to monthly and annual performance reports.
  • Identify key contractual KPIs and take action to limit their influence on revenue and potential liquidated damages.

Contractor & Site Coordination

  • Coordinate with O&M service providers regarding routine operational issues.
  • Support field visits, site inspections, and basic performance audits.
  • Keep technical documentation, as-built drawings, and asset records up to date.

Professional Development

  • Build foundational knowledge of PV system design, component behavior, and common failure modes.
  • Develop technical skills in data analysis, scripting, automation, and SCADA logic.
  • Progress toward independently managing the technical oversight of solar assets.
