Perioperative Nurse for a Plastic Surgery Center (Pre-op/Intra-op/Post-op)

Responsibilities: As a Perioperative Registered Nurse at NOVA Surgery Center, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care throughout various stages of surgery. Your responsibilities will include:

Preoperative Duties:

• Conduct preoperative physical exams, make phone calls and send emails to gather necessary data per anesthesia and surgery guidelines. Communicate any abnormal findings or lab values.
• Admit patient, gather vital signs, start PIV, administer medications as ordered, gather consent forms, chaperone for pre-surgical markings
• Ensure patients are prepared for surgery, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
• Provide discharge instructions and education for postoperative care

Intraoperative Duties:

• Provide assistance to the surgical team in the role of circulating nurse during surgery
• Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available for anesthesia and surgeon to include bed set-up and preparation of medications
• Assist anesthesia during induction
• Position patient for surgery
• Assist with surgical procedures by scrubbing in and maintaining a sterile environment
• Placement of foley catheters
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide support during surgery
• Perform surgical counts
• Coordinate activities in emergency situations

Postoperative Duties:

• Monitor patients in PACU (vital signs, surgical wound) until patient meets discharge criteria
• Administer medications and treatments as directed
• Conduct postop visit exams in the office and communicate your findings with surgeons

Other Tasks:

• Enter surgical postings into computer schedule and calendar system
• Make postoperative phone checks to assess patient recovery and address any concerns

• Collaborate with the administrative team to schedule surgical cases efficiently
• Ensure accurate documentation of patient information and maintaining medical records
• Monitoring equipment and scheduling repairs and replacements
• Quarterly Inventory
• Ordering and Unpacking orders
• Update preference cards
• Ensure Quad A compliance standards met
• Perform sterile processing responsibilities

Qualifications:

• Experienced Registered Nurse (RN) degree from an accredited nursing program
• Current and unrestricted RN license in VA
• Must have experience in Preop, Circulating and or PACU
• Desire to learn surgical scrubbing is an asset
• BLS and ACLS certification required
