Job Description - Permit Specialist (on-site) - Transportation Services

Description

Job Summary:

The Permit Specialist is responsible for obtaining permits for Oversized/Overweight Transportation. The role involves researching permit requirements, preparing and submitting permit applications, and communicating with government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1. Research permit requirements and regulations for Oversized/Overweight Transportation and/or other regulated activities.
  2. Prepare and submit permit applications accurately and in a timely manner.
  3. Communicate with government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and resolve issues as needed.
  4. Review permit applications and other documents for accuracy and completeness.
  5. Track and maintain records of permit applications and approvals.
  6. Develop and maintain positive relationships with government agencies and other stakeholders.
  7. Provide guidance and support to project teams and other stakeholders regarding permit requirements and processes.
  8. Monitor and stay up to date on changes to permit regulations and requirements.
  9. Participate in meetings and discussions with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  10. Other duties as needed or assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience, preferred but not required
  • 2+ years of experience in obtaining permits, preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal permit requirements and regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with government agencies and other stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and other software programs
  • Experience with permit tracking and management software preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Positive and proactive attitude

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to speak/present to management, governing offices, and customers. 
  • Specific requirements include:
  • Use of hands for typing and writing.
  • Active listening and clear speech are essential.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment as required
