Job Description
 

Overview

The Pesticide Applicator applies pesticide chemicals to public grounds and facilities to control weeds and insects in compliance with the Texas Department of Agriculture, Structural Pest Board, and federal, state, and city regulations and standards.

Essential Functions

1 Operates and calibrates a 300 gallon swing-lock sprayer and 5 and 50 gallon sprayers to apply herbicide, insecticide, fungicide, and fertilizer chemicals to public grounds and facilities.
2 Inspects turf, ornamental plants, and public facilities to determine the type of chemical to apply; determines wind direction and velocity to prevent the spread of damaging airborne chemicals and ensure safe application.

3 Mixes and measures all chemicals and calibrates all spraying equipment in an accurate and safe manner to ensure
compliance with the Texas Department of Agriculture and structural Pest Board, federal, state, and city regulations and standards.

4 Assesses pest and plant diseases to ensure appropriate and safe treatment; researches data to ensure the safe and effective long term treatment and application plan.

5 Acts as lead worker assisting other crew members by providing direction and instruction of chemical application; maintains application log book by documenting dates, locations, quantities, types of chemicals applied, application rescheduling to ensure compliance with state pesticide law.

6 Maintains chemical, tools, and equipment inventory to ensure availability and safe storage; cleans sprayers between applications to avoid damaging chemicals being applied and ensure against the creation of toxic chemical mixtures.

7 Assists in other areas of grounds maintenance and equipment operations such as forestry, horticulture, mowing,
and irrigation to ensure safe coordination of all operations.

8 Performs any and all other work as required or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, rules, regulations and standards in pesticide and herbicide application, management, and operations.
2 Knowledge of application techniques, methods, and procedures of pesticides and herbicides.

3 Knowledge of equipment calibration techniques, pesticide chemicals and the usage, and chemical application safety
techniques.

4 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

5 Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

6 Ability to produce written documents/reports with clearly organized thoughts.

7 Ability to keep accurate records; comprehend and make inferences from written material.

8 Knowledge of customer service practices and principles.

9 Ability to assist and provide guidance for other personnel performing applications and related work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

LICENSES:

  • Current Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Pesticide Applicator's License or Structural Pest Control license with Weed Control category.

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record. 



Salary Range

 

$22.32 - $24.56
