Dog training and day care/boarding facility is looking for a Groomer for our busy on-site bathing and grooming department. The daycare/boarding facility is open Mon-Fri from 7am to 7pm and from 8am to 4pm on Saturdays. The grooming department is open 7 days a week to accommodate the daycare/boarding clients - groomers may work a weekend day depending upon client needs. Pay rate is hourly + commission on grooms performed.
Key Accountabilities:
The candidate must be able to consistently perform the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Safety and Client Service:
Ensure the safety, health and well-being of animals by following Crossroads' standard operating procedures and industry best practices. Is focused on animal welfare/safety and is knowledgeable regarding Breed Profiles/Standards when clipping or trimming an animal’s coat. Follows owner requests for bathing/grooming and communicates with clients regarding any requests that may not comply with safe animal handling.
Grooming Responsibilities:
Professionally perform grooming services: brushing, bathing, de-matting, ear and teeth cleaning, expression of anal glands, haircuts and nail trims, etc. Work with other grooming staff and assist the General Manager with salon operations. Identify and communicate situations and/or safety issues to the General Manager and/or Owner.
Grooming Operations:
Review grooming schedules and completed paperwork to ensure animals are groomed to meet breed/client expectations and are ready for client pickup at agreed-upon time. Ensure sales are recorded accurately and all payments are accounted for at the end of the work day. Work with the General Manager for supply ordering and staffing, and as necessary for proper and safe operation of the salon.
Assists with building the grooming business: scheduling services, addressing client feedback, reminder calls/emails, greeting guests and promoting additional services (upselling). Adheres to and promotes established safety protocols and ensures the maintenance of a clean and safe grooming environment. Engages professionally and effectively with staff and clients - written and verbal.
Knowledge and Skills:
Guest Experience: Ensures the accurate understanding of guests needs and makes recommendations based on those needs. Is an advocate for the client and their animal(s).
Judgment: Sound decision making regarding everyday issues/problems and potential opportunities. Chooses alternatives based on consideration of pros and cons, timing and available resources. Makes timely decisions regarding problems/issues requiring immediate attention and notifies others about actions needed.
Results Oriented: Takes personal responsibility to make decisions and take action. Initiates decisive and timely action to address important issues, involves the General Manager and/or Owner, as needed to ensure appropriate resources are available. Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and a commitment to achieving results and sets clear goals for self as well as grooming staff.
Communication: Communicates information clearly, concisely, and professionally and provides appropriate level of detail in communications. Provides and receives feedback - listens carefully and attentively to others' opinions and ideas. Provides timely updates and communicates information with staff and ownership.
Motivation: Demonstrates a 'can-do' attitude and has a strong sense of ownership and commitment to the business and the clients. Encourages high standards of performance and acknowledges other’s accomplishments. Strengthens the working relationships of the salon team by working together, energizing staff and fully understanding the broader purpose and mission of their work.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma (or GED). One (1) year experience as a groomer/bather with experience in all breeds grooming - NDGAA certification or ability to attain certification within six (6) months is preferred.
Work Environment:
The majority of duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon handling pets and in contact with clients. A portion of time will be spent retrieving dogs that require grooming services from the kennel area, which is outdoors. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing for long periods of time in an environment that is wet and noisy - all safety protocols must be followed to reduce any risk of injury to employees, clients and animals.
Interfacing:
This position routinely interfaces with the grooming receptionist, other groomer/bathers, kennel staff.
The position interfaces directly with clients and is expected to put forth a professional and knowledgeable demeanor with clients and staff.
The position interfaces directly with the General Manager regarding staffing, scheduling and supply ordering, and other tasks as needed.
This position may also interface with the owner, kennel front office staff and the on-site trainers.
This position reports directly to the Facility General Manager.
