The PET/CT Technologist is responsible for performing positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with physician orders, regulatory standards, and departmental protocols. This position combines technical skill, patient care, and radiation safety expertise to support high-quality diagnostic imaging services. The technologist will also assist in clinical instruction, maintain equipment and records, and support cross-modality functions as needed.
Essential Functions:
· Perform PET/CT and nuclear medicine procedures using a variety of technical skills, independent judgment, and adherence to established protocols.
· Prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals following appropriate guidelines and safety standards.
· Assess patient condition and readiness for imaging procedures, ensuring comfort, understanding, and cooperation throughout the process.
· Perform diagnostic CT scans, adjusting protocols as necessary for patient condition, size, and clinical indication.
· Maintain all required documentation, including radiation dose, contrast usage, radiopharmaceutical tracking, and quality assurance logs.
· Demonstrate working knowledge of PACS, RIS (Radiology Information Systems), and hospital EMR systems such as MediTech.
· Ensure radiation safety for patients and staff through the consistent application of ALARA principles, proper shielding, collimation, and distance practices.
· Maintain equipment functionality by performing routine quality control checks and reporting issues in a timely manner.
· Restock supplies and maintain a clean, organized work area.
· Provide clinical instruction to students and serve as a preceptor to new staff.
· Respond to departmental call-back duties when required.
· Assist with Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) duties as delegated.
· Follow departmental and hospital policies regarding patient safety, including pain management and restraint use.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Training Requirements:
· Current ARRT certification (R) one year work experience in CT preferred, but not required.
· Current NM State license
· AHA BLS certification within 3 months of hire
· Current certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology by ARRT (N) or NMTCB/CNMT.
· CT certification by ARRT (CT) preferred or obtained within a specified period of hire.
· Current New Mexico State Radiologic Technologist License.
BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire.
· Minimum one (1) year of experience in Nuclear Medicine preferred.
· CT experience preferred; new CT-certified technologists may be considered with appropriate training.
· Willingness to cross-train in multiple modalities highly desired.
· Experience with PACS, RIS, and hospital-based imaging systems required.
