Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) – Urgent Care & Pharmacy

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to oversee the daily operations, compliance, and patient care services in our urgent care-affiliated pharmacy. The PIC will be responsible for ensuring adherence to state and federal pharmacy regulations, managing inventory, supervising pharmacy staff, and providing exceptional patient-centered care. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and clinical expertise in a fast-paced urgent care and pharmacy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pharmacy Operations & Compliance:

• Oversee all pharmacy operations to ensure regulatory compliance with state and federal laws.
• Maintain all required licensing, permits, and certifications for the pharmacy and staff.
• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for medication dispensing and safety.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, DEA, FDA, and state pharmacy board regulations.
• Prepare for and manage pharmacy inspections and audits.

2. Medication Management & Dispensing:

• Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy, legality, and safety.
• Ensure proper storage, handling, and security of medications.
• Monitor controlled substance inventory and ensure compliance with DEA reporting requirements.
• Implement best practices in medication therapy management (MTM).

3. Patient Care & Customer Service:

• Provide patient counseling on prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications.
• Address drug interactions, side effects, and adherence concerns.
• Work closely with urgent care providers to optimize patient medication regimens.
• Ensure a patient-friendly experience through clear communication and service excellence.

4. Staff Supervision & Development:

• Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
• Train and mentor staff on pharmacy procedures, safety, and regulations.
• Monitor performance and conduct quality assurance checks.

5. Inventory & Financial Management:

• Maintain accurate inventory records and oversee ordering of medications and supplies.
• Implement cost-effective purchasing strategies to minimize waste and control expenses.
• Ensure proper billing and reimbursement for prescriptions and insurance claims.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm) from an accredited program.
• Active pharmacist license in [State] and in good standing with the state board of pharmacy.
• 3+ years of experience in a retail, urgent care, or hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws, controlled substances regulations, and insurance billing.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented healthcare environment.
• Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy management systems.
