Job Description - Pharmacist


Reports To: Director of Pharmacy

Employee Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: Under general supervision, but in line with established PC&HC policies and procedures, responsible for efficient operation of PC&HC’s Pharmacy and Dispensary.

Essential Functions

  • Represent PC&HC to the employees, patients, and guests in a courteous and professional manner. Provide prompt, efficient and accurate service.
  • Maintain pharmacy and dispensary services in accordance with State and Federal regulations, accepted standards, professional practices and PC&HC policies.
  • Review and interpret practitioners’ orders for appropriateness to ensure that overdoses or under-doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities or toxic compounds will not result from the combination of medications.
  • Assist patients in obtaining prescriptions through Prescription Assistance Programs.
  • Prepare and dispense medicines, chemicals and pharmaceutical preparations according to written orders by authorized medical practitioners with clinical privileges.
  • Counsel patients about their medications and maintain an accurate patient profile.
  • Document the dispensing of all medication according to the PC&HC policies and procedures.
  • Sign out and restock medication using the medication software per PC&HC policies and procedures.
  • Provide drug information such as dosing, compatibilities and formulary substitutes to practitioners.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the profession.
  • Responsible for wearing identification badge listing name and job title at all times while on duty.
  • Improve the patient experience and health care processes and help assure the provision of high quality health care, as well as an ongoing process of performance improvement.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Current licensure to practice pharmacy in state of Tennessee.
  • Five (5) or more years of pharmacy experience.
  • Accurate in all transactions.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Must follow all HIPAA and OSHA requirements.
  • Must be supportive of our mission in order to provide healthcare to the underinsured and uninsured.
