  Pharmacist

 

  • A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.
  • Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
  • Operating Hours-Monday-Wednesday, Friday 0700 - 1600
    Thursday: 0700 - 1200

On 15 January 1947, the 161st General Hospital was inactivated and was reactivated as the Rodriguez General Hospital. The status of Puerto Rico was also changing and by the Jones Act of 1917, Puerto Rico had become an incorporated territory of the United States. The territory received partial self government in 1947 and the American military decided it no longer needed all of Fort Brooke.

On February 14, 1949, the Rodriguez General Hospital was closed as a part of the closing of Fort Brooke. The Outpatient Clinic which was located on Fort Buchanan was renamed; the Rodriguez Army Health Clinic and remains in part to this day.









Responsibilities






 

  • Therapeutic Collaboration: Participate in medical rounds with physicians to design, implement, and monitor optimal, individualized medication plans for inpatients and outpatients.

 

  • Medication Safety & Protocols: Review medical histories, analyze regimens for contraindications, adjust doses, and initiate protocol-driven therapies and diagnostic tests.

 

  • Patient Advocacy & Counseling: Counsel patients on proper drug administration, side effects, and adherence, while monitoring therapy outcomes post-discharge.

 

  • Pharmacokinetic Dosing : Establish and maintain a comprehensive dosing service, monitoring drug levels and physiological changes to adjust dosing intervals safely.

 

  • Resource & Waste Optimization: Guide staff through Medication Utilization Evaluations (MUE) and analyze high-cost drug therapies to make cost-effective recommendations to the P&T Committee.

 

  • Education & Mentorship  Provide drug lectures and continuing education to medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff, while serving as a preceptor to pharmacy students and residents.

 

  • Clinical Leadership & Operations: Direct clinical pharmacy staff (including Reservists/students), manage the Adverse Drug Event Program, assist with clinical research protocols, and support hands-on medication dispensing.

Who May Apply: US Citizens

 
Basic Requirements for Pharmacist:

Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes preparing pharmaceuticals, providing medication counseling to patients, and providing pharmaceutical education to healthcare professionals. This position requires at least one year of inpatient pharmacist experience.
