Job Description - Pharmacist in Charge

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This position is part of the clinical/compliance team, and the position is responsible for accurately filling controlled medications, prescribed by providers, in a timely manner, and provides clear and concise communication with patients, clinical staff, and providers. This position works at a Pharmacy location with less than 50,000 prescriptions filled annually.

*This position will train in our Coffeyville and Parsons Kansas clinics until the Independence pharmacy opens.  (Expected opening date of January 2027).


Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Provides positive impression, through words and tone, to patients, visitors, and employees presenting to the clinic. 
  2. Reviews prescriptions issued by providers to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed. 
  3. Responsible for accurately filling controlled medications, prescribed by providers, in a timely manner.
  4. Participates in Medication Therapy Management by reviewing patient’s medications, labs, and current diagnosis and making clinical recommendations to providers based on current guidelines.
  5. Provides counsel for patients with instructions of medication use.
  6. Maintains established procedures concerning security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  7. Enters data accurately into information system.
  8. Communicates effectively with providers, clinical staff, pharmacy associates and patients. 
  9. Prepares required reporting, as needed.
  10. Oversees the ordering and management of medication inventory.
  11. Coordinate with other Apothecare pharmacies to work in unison for overall patient care, including but not limited to shared services prescriptions.
  12. Responsible for (hiring, managing, and evaluating) pharmacy staff, including, but not limited to, staff pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks, and pharmacy delivery drivers in the pharmacy.
  13. Performs all duties, services, and documentation in full compliance with CHC/SEK policies and procedures. 
  14. Participates in pharmacy departmental activities (e.g. business planning) and quality improvement activities, as necessary.
  15. Responsible, with the oversight/assistance of the Director of Pharmacy, with any other tasks, which has not been specifically stated, associated with running an Apothecare pharmacy.
  16. Performs additional duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  1. Current Kansas Pharmacist License
  2. Maintaining Continuing Education as required.
  3. Previous Pharmacy Management experience preferred.
  4. Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient-and employee-base.
  5. Must be computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products and be able to use the Internet.
  6. Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization. 
  7. Provide customer service in accordance to the organization’s mission. 
  8. Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members. 
  9. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.  

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Computer work is frequent. Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times
