Due to growth, we are adding this Pharmacist In Charge to our Specialty Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

The Pharmacist in Charge ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for the Specialty pharmacy; dispenses prescribed specialty medications; provides functional supervision of professional, paraprofessional, and support staff; and performs related duties as required.

The Pharmacist in Charge is a distinguished professional from a staff pharmacist by the responsibilities for ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations governing the operation of their respective pharmacy including licensing of the pharmacy. The Pharmacist in Charge is responsible for planning and directing the work of the pharmacy operations. The Pharmacist in Charge has full supervisory responsibility for all pharmacy staff (Customer Service, Pharmacists, Reimbursement support, Technicians) at the given pharmacy location. The Pharmacist in Charge will also oversee aspects of Specialty pharmacy operations including accreditations and inspections. As part of the URAC accreditation, the Pharmacist in Charge will be responsible for assisting in providing guidance on clinical operational aspects of the specialty and quality programs. This includes, but is not limited to, oversight of clinical decision-making of staff and periodic consultation with practitioners. The Pharmacist in Charge is accountable for decisions affecting consumers as well as client and consumer complaints/errors. The Pharmacist in Charge will also have a dotted line of responsibility and oversee the implementation of client payers, pharmaceutical manufacturer payers, and physician sales. Future responsibilities may include Infusion services, sterile preparations and compounding.

The Pharmacist in Charge will ensure that all business operations continue in the Specialty Pharmacy in the absence of the General Manager.

How do I make an impact on my team?

  • Maintains records of all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to ensure accurate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; ensures legal operation of the pharmacy, including meeting all inspection and other requirements of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy operations.
  • Fills prescriptions for pharmaceutical preparations and devices for patients at company facilities; maintains accurate and detailed records of all prescription transactions, and submits appropriate claims for third-party reimbursement; consults with physicians and nurses regarding pharmaceutical questions; advises physicians on formulary medications and cost-effective and innovative therapies; answers pharmaceutical questions from patients and staff; monitors storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals.
  • May provide functional supervision to professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in their respective pharmacy, including training, assigning duties, and providing input for performance evaluations.
  • Documents and reports medication errors to direct supervisor. Facilitates error reduction and prevention methods based off errors and ISMP standards.
  • The Employee will act in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and with the highest ethical standards that we consistently strive to achieve. Thus, legal and ethical compliance is an essential duty of each employee.
  • Assist in the development and maintain prior authorization and medical necessity guidelines, as appropriate
  • May attend P & T committees
  • Create educational and support materials for clients on protocols and available programs
  • Support, develop and maintain DUR programs.
  • Responsible for assisting in claims benefit investigation and processing workflow procedure

What our team expects from you?

  • Licensed Pharmacist with Pharm D Degree or BS Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy required. License must be current and unrestricted. Further pharmacy or disease certifications are helpful but not required. Possession of a valid Pharmacist license issued by the State where the pharmacy is domiciled and in all required State Board of Pharmacies necessary by the respective state to mail prescriptions into that state.
  • Minimum of five years as a licensed Pharmacist and a minimum of one year of professional experience as a Specialty Pharmacist strongly preferred; or a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and license.
  • Preferred understanding of Specialty Pharmacy drugs including REMS and Limited Distribution Products best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and ability to function independently and make decisions. Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management. Previous experience in management of staff preferred
  • Knowledge of inventory control; state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the legal operation of a pharmacy
  • Participate in, adhere to, and support compliance program objectives
  • The ability to consistently interact cooperatively and respectfully with other employees
