POSITION TITLE: Pharmacy Clerk
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Pharmacy Manager / Store Manager
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time


Position Summary:


The Pharmacy Clerk is an important member of the pharmacy team responsible for supporting pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with daily operations while providing exceptional service to patients, providers, and accounts. This role focuses on prescription workflow support, patient communication, insurance processing, provider coordination, and administrative pharmacy functions.


The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and brings a positive, energetic attitude to the team. This individual should have a strong desire to help others, provide outstanding customer service, and consistently go above and beyond to support patients and the pharmacy team.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Work closely with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to support daily pharmacy workflow and operations.

  • Answer incoming phone calls and communicate professionally with patients, providers, insurance companies, and accounts.

  • Assist patients with prescription updates, refill requests, medication status, and general pharmacy-related questions.

  • Process prescription information accurately and assist with prescription workflow, data entry, and documentation.

  • Assist with insurance processing, claim troubleshooting, coverage questions, and prior authorization support as needed.

  • Communicate with medical offices and providers regarding prescription requests, clarifications, and patient care coordination.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and update information within pharmacy systems.

  • Contact patients for medication reminders, follow-ups, account information, and pharmacy services.

  • Assist with prescription pickup coordination and payment/register functions as needed.

  • Support shipping, receiving, prescription packaging, and other pharmacy operational tasks.

  • Assist with inventory organization, supplies, and maintaining an efficient pharmacy workspace.

  • Continue developing knowledge of pharmacy services, compounded medications, vitamins, supplements, and medical equipment.

  • Provide a welcoming, professional, and service-focused experience for every patient, provider, and account interaction.


Minimum Qualifications & Key Requirements:



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Positive, energetic attitude with a willingness to contribute to a strong team culture.

  • Reliable and punctual with excellent attendance and dependability.

  • Strong commitment to providing above-and-beyond customer service and creating positive patient experiences.

  • Excellent communication skills with professional phone etiquette.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to take initiative to support the team.

  • Customer service experience required; pharmacy experience preferred.

  • Pharmacy technician experience or knowledge of pharmacy workflow is a plus.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:



  • Frequent communication with patients, providers, and team members by phone and in person.

  • Regular computer use and handling of pharmacy documents and materials.

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Work environment noise level is typically moderate.
