The Pharmacy Manager ensures the safe and effective use and administration of medications through proper storage, handling, evaluation, preparation, compounding, labeling, and dispensing. In addition, The Pharmacy Manager will provide oversight of the hospital pharmacy's clinical, operational, administrative, staffing, and financial management. The Pharmacy Manager will assign tasks, supervise and coach Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, and support the Corporate Director of Pharmacy’s strategy. The Pharmacy Manager will also serve as a member of the hospital Leadership Team.
Medication Order Verification: Thoroughly review and verify medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, potential drug interactions, and allergies.
Medication Dispensing: Prepare, compound, and dispense medications according to established protocols and physician orders.
Patient Counseling and Education: Provide clear, understandable information to patients and their caregivers regarding medication use, potential side effects, and safe administration practices.
Drug Therapy Monitoring: Assess patient medication regimens for safety, efficacy, and potential adverse drug reactions. Collaborate with physicians to recommend adjustments or alternatives as needed.
Clinical Support: Participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds, providing medication-related expertise and recommendations to the healthcare team.
Inventory Management: Maintain appropriate drug inventory levels, ensure timely medication and supply ordering, and oversee the proper storage and disposal of pharmaceuticals.
Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy practice, including controlled substance management and documentation.
Continuous Education: Remain updated on the latest advancements in pharmacology and therapeutics through participation in professional development activities.
Requirements
Licenses or Certifications
Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Pharmacist in the state where currently practicing.
Education, Training, and Experience
Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Experience with the hands-on build out of a pharmacy department and hospital pharmacy operations is a plus, from pre-opening to department launch, including:
Implementation of automated dispensing cabinets (pending and loading medications)
