General Statement of Duties
The Forsyth County Department of Behavioral Health is seeking to hire a Pharmacy Technician to assist the Pharmacist with dispensing medications. The Pharmacy Technician is an integral member of the pharmacy team and will be responsible for working the front counter performing tasks such as receiving/input prescription requests, ringing up purchases, exchanging money, and printing drug information for patients. The Pharmacy Technician will also be responsible for ordering medications from wholesalers, maintaining inventories, maintaining emergency kits completing paperwork, returning medication to inventory and operating the register.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Some shifts may begin at 7:30 am). May occasionally work after hours to include weekends.
The Pharmacy primarily dispenses behavioral health medications, but also specialized formulas and medications prescribed by the Forsyth County Public Health clinics, the employee wellness center and fills EMS orders.
Distinguishing Features
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Working knowledge of drug pricing schedules, drug pricing microfiche, and drug catalogues
Considerable knowledge of office/pharmacy practices and procedures
Customer services skills
Ability to summarize, compile, and tabulate narrative and numerical material and to analyze and record information and to balance figures
Ability to type with accuracy at the speed required by the position
Ability to be resourceful in gathering and providing information
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and other stakeholders
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED and one year pharmacy related experience or completion of a nine-month Pharmacy Technician program.
A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
A valid driver's license is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collects fees from patients and issues receipts.
Types requisitions for drugs and supplies, and office correspondence.
Interviews patients to determine their financial status.
Prepares monthly totals and statistics, prices medication using drug price book schedules.
Assists the pharmacists by performing such duties as typing prescription labels, counting tablets and capsules, pouring liquids and getting drugs from the shelves and placing them in the proper area.
Refers patients to the social worker or pharmacist when appropriate.
Performs related work as assigned.
Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
