JOB SUMMARY:

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.  Pharmacy Technicians do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. 

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Experience: One year related pharmacy experience preferred. 

License/Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1. Fills physician orders, and stock requisitions accurately


2. Reorder medications when needed for Pharmacy. 


3. Deliver and stock medications and supplies to Omnicell areas accurately per established schedule. 


4. Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.  


5. Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.  


6. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications. 


7. Restocks medication in IV dispensing areas accurately within specified time periods.  


8. Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques. 


9. Pick up and medications for return from patient care areas. 


10. Enters medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately.  


11. Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.  


12. Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required. 


13. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Direct calls to appropriate personnel.  


14. Answers requests at the window and makes deliveries to patient care and Ancillary areas when requested.  


15. Organizes and prioritizes work assignments. 


16. Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations. 


17. Demonstrates good oral and written communication. 


18. Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy sink and equipment clean. 


19. Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications. 


20. Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned.  


21. Performance demonstrates efforts to improve patient satisfaction, lower costs, improve quality, and promote safety. 


22. Understands and meets customers’ needs and expectations. The patients and members always come first. 


23. Demonstrates the ability to address problems in a group setting using tools and techniques for identification and resolution of problems. 


24. Prepares IVs and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques. 


25. Demonstrates the values and behaviors of the organization. 


26. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.). All new employees working must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment (unless the new hire has requested and received an exemption).
