Shift: The shifts are 830-5 and 930-6, rotating, and it WILL include some weekend shifts. 

Job Summary: Pharmacy Specialists perform one or more of the following duties: controlled substance management, pharmaceutical purchasing, Meds to Beds Pharmacy coordinator, or a coordination of complex high risk pharmacy processes i.e. sterile and non-sterile compounding.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: State of Oklahoma Pharmacy Board Technician Certification in good standing required. National Technician Certification strongly preferred. Advanced Specialty Certification strongly preferred.

Work Experience: None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to integrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts or interpretations. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Working knowledge of pharmacy computer software including order entry, ADC's (automated dispensing cabinets), unit-dose packaging and pharmacy inventory retrieval systems. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to be detail-oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Ability to type or perform data entry.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Controlled substance (CS) management to include: (1) has day to day responsibility for CS vault, (2) maintains accurate CS counts, (3) reviews Control Substance Manager (CSM) reports, (4) investigates CSM inventory discrepancies, (5) reports all discrepancies to the Pharmacist in Charge immediately, (6) works with the pharmacy purchasing area to order CS medications, (7) perform weekly inventory of CS stored in the vault, and (8) ensures that all staff follow Federal / State law and System policy relating to CS medications. Pharmacy purchasing to include: (1) expert knowledge of drug wholesaler electronic ordering system, (2) knowledge of the 340B program to ensure program compliance and best price, (3) expert knowledge of Workflow Rx and electronic ordering process, (4) maintain Working Relationships with key vendors, (5) ensure cheapest generic medication is purchased unless instructed otherwise by System Director of Pharmacy, (6) work with reverse distributor to destroy all expired drugs, (7) works with System Manager to maintain appropriate inventory levels and economic ordering quantities, and (8) ensures that Federal / State law and System policy relating to the purchasing of controlled and dangerous substances is followed. Meds to Beds Pharmacy coordinator to include: (1) presenting meds to beds program to hospital inpatients prior to discharge, (2) communicates with unit staff on referrals, discharges, and prescriptions, (3) monitors Epic software for new referrals, updates to referrals, and discharges, (4) retrieves prescriptions from units and deliver to pharmacy, (5) carry cell phone and ASCOM for communication, (6) carry iPad for retrieval of patient signature upon delivery of medication, (7) assists pharmacist in operation of the pharmacy; ordering medications, order entry, transferring patient information from Epic to pharmacy software, filling prescriptions, ordering medication, filing, scanning, and adjudication of prescriptions. Sterile compounding to include: (1) advance specialty certification in both sterile compounding and chemotherapy compounding, (2) advance knowledge of both USP 797 and USP 800, (3) provides SFHS specific training concerning sterile and/or hazardous compounding, (4) maintains quality control records for the sterile compounding lab, (5) reports any process variation to their supervisor immediately, and (6) ensures that Federal/State law and System policy relating to sterile and hazardous compounding is followed. Non-sterile compounding to include: (1) advanced specialty certification in non-sterile compounding, (2) advanced knowledge of USP 795, (3) provides SFHS specific training for non-sterile compounding, (4) maintains quality control records for non-sterile compounding, (5) reports any process variation to their supervisor immediately, and (6) ensures that Federal/State law and System policy relating to non-sterile compounding is followed.

Decision Making: The carrying out of non-routine procedures under constantly changing conditions, in conformance with general instructions from supervisor.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Has input on performance evaluations but does not prepare or give. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal/external customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
