Job Description - Pharmacy Technician Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

The pharmacy technician supervisor at MAHEC works in collaboration with the departmental leadership team and operates as the first line of support for the pharmacy technicians. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor assists with achieving excellent patient experience, high quality outcomes, and improved productivity for the team. Performs the daily duties of the pharmacy technician.

Pharmacy technician roles supervised by pharmacy technician supervisor include refill protocol team, medication assistance program, patient access center, and population health.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the interviewing and selection process of technicians.
  • Participates in and coordinates new employee onboarding and training for technicians
  • Completes technician competency assessments and provides real-time feedback on job performance. Coaches team members to achieve success
  • Conduct technician meetings to ensure staff are appropriately updated on departmental and system updates and communications.
  • Perform clinical chart audits as needed, using established review protocols.
  • Manage daily operations of technician-related Pharmacy services, including developing, updating, and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all technician duties.
  • Participates in front line duties as needed such as prescription refills, medication access and patient access center.
  • Problem-solve patient complaints and complex medication-related issues with communication/follow-up with department heads and administration.
  • Identify and communicate need for adequate resources to meet needs of patients and staff.
  • Participates in system changes in the department to ensure staff understands process and workflow changes under direction of the chair, administrative director, or designee.
  • Contributes to the goals of pharmacy leadership by timely completing projects and new initiatives. Identifies opportunities to improve processes based on feedback and experience. Communicates effectively with pharmacy leadership team.

SPECIFIED SKILLS

  • COMPUTER
    • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.
    • Electronic health record experience.
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE
    • Spanish speaking skills preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Light - Moderate energy level: Lift and carry 25 - 35 lbs, Push/Pull 50 - 100 lbs (empty bed, stretcher, etc.)
  • Frequent (34 - 66% of Workday)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises pharmacy technicians in patient access center, refill protocol, medication assistance program, and population health roles

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) license
    • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record and/or pharmacy dispensing software preferred
    • Five years of pharmacy or clinical experience
    • Advanced skillset in one of the following:
      • Clinical care: 
        • Examples include: refill protocol, medication access, medication reconciliation
      • Retail operations:
        • Examples include: inventory management, 340B analysis, workforce management
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Graduation from a pharmacy technician training program

REQUIRED LICENSES:

  • Certification as a pharmacy technician with NC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Certification as a CPhT through PCTB
  • Current CPR Certification.

SCHEDULE:

Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.

POSITION COMPENSATION:

$29.90/hu, full time + full benefits available
