Phlebotomist

Description

Position Summary: The Phlebotomist will be responsible for providing phlebotomy services in buildings being sure to follow all established protocols and regulations set forth by the laboratory team, along with state and federal guidelines.

Essential Functions:

• Properly prepares collected specimens for testing and analysis, ensuring specimen integrity
• Verifies urine and blood test requisitions
• Identifies the patient before any specimen is obtained
• Labels and documents specimens to prepare for shipment
• Maintains daily tallies of collections performed
• Tracks and requests laboratory and office supplies needed to fulfill duties
• Provides site specific procedural training to new employees
• Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations; follow Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling specimens.
• Strictly adheres to HIPAA regulations
• Collects patient blood and/or urine specimens using established procedures
• Ability to provide quality, error free work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
• Excellent phlebotomy skills to include geriatric.
• Must demonstrate superior customer focus; ability to communicate openly and transparently with peers, supervisors and patients.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Computer and technology proficient
• A proven ability to handle ambiguity in the absence of defined systems and processes
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds

Requirements

Qualifications

Education:  

 High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Licenses/Certification:

Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency

Experience:

A minimum of one year experience in a hospital or clinic setting is desired.

Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
