Job Summary
The phlebotomist will play a vital role in supporting patient recovery and wellness by performing blood draws, specimen collection, and related clinical tasks. This role requires not only technical skills but also sensitivity, patience, and understanding when working with individuals in recovery or experiencing mental health challenges.

Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture, capillary sticks, and specimen collection in accordance with clinical and laboratory standards.

Verify patient identification, explain procedures clearly, and provide reassurance to ensure a positive and safe experience.

Collect, label, and prepare blood and urine specimens for laboratory testing, including toxicology screens and medication monitoring.

Accurately document specimen collection and maintain detailed patient records in compliance with clinic protocols and confidentiality standards (HIPAA).

Monitor and maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies.

Adhere to all infection control, safety, and compliance procedures.

Perform and chart basic vitals

Collaborate with medical, nursing, and counseling staff to support patient care and treatment plans.

Provide trauma-informed care, demonstrating respect and professionalism in all patient interactions.

Assist with additional clinical support duties as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.

Current Phlebotomy Certification (CPT, PBT, or equivalent).

1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting with occasional standing and walking for 8-10 hour shifts.

Frequent use of fine motor skills to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and ability to reach with hands and arms on a regular basis.

Intermittently required to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Manual dexterity for specimen collection and handling.

Consistently required to talk and/or hear.

Required Skills/Abilities

Experience in a behavioral health, addiction treatment, or clinical setting strongly preferred.

Knowledge of toxicology testing and medication monitoring. (preferred but not required).

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Proficiency in medical terminology, clinic software systems (e.g., EHR), and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulatory requirements related to patient privacy and healthcare administration.
