What you’ll do

• Perform skilled venipuncture procedures on diverse patient populations
• Collect blood samples using various techniques (straight needle, butterfly, etc.)
• Build rapport with veteran patients to ensure comfortable experiences
• Practice thorough patient identification using VA's two-identifier system
• Respond professionally to patient concerns and questions
• Handle special collection requirements for specific tests
• Assist patients with mobility challenges

• Process and prepare specimens for testing or transport
• Operate state-of-the-art laboratory equipment
• Manage specimen accessioning and documentation
• Maintain proper storage conditions for specimens
• Ensure accurate labeling and tracking of all samples
• Follow strict quality control procedures
• Monitor and maintain supply inventory

• Use VA's electronic health record system for order management and documentation
• Follow VA and CAP (College of American Pathologists) safety protocols
• Work collaboratively with laboratory technologists, pathologists, and nursing staff
• Participate in regular competency assessments and department meetings
• Maintain clean and organized work areas while ensuring HIPAA compliance

Required Qualifications

• Current Phlebotomy Certification
• Current BLS Certification
• 3+ years of clinical phlebotomy experience
• Strong computer skills
• Excellent patient care abilities
