MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Phlebotomy certification.
2. Point of Care Technician through the West Virginia DHHR.

EXPERIENCE:
1. One (1) year of phlebotomist experience.
One (1) year of laboratory experience.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Receive, identify and prepare all samples and request forms entering the department.
2. Maintain accurate log, using pending logs and the specimen tracker system.
3. Prepare, store and retrieve when necessary frozen aliquots, 24 hr urine aliquots,
microbiology and routine blood samples.
4. Alert the appropriate departments on receipt of urgent samples, frozen samples and
samples requiring special handling.
5. Use the laboratory computer systems, including confidential use of the test/client libraries, hospital intranet and referral database during data entry.
6. Scan, file and archive request forms and other hard copy data.
7. Maintain a good operating knowledge of any required analyzers or equipment essential

8. Handle queries relating to samples and requests in a timely and professional manner.
9. Receive and handle incoming calls including stats and critical results, through a broad knowledge of the company’s policies.
10. Perform tasks in a careful and efficient way, in compliance with current CAP standards, regulatory requirements and the Quality Management System.
12. Clean laboratory equipment, glassware and maintains clean lab area.
13. Under the supervision and direction of a medical technologist perform waived test in
certain areas of the clinical laboratory.
14. Monitors supplies and inventory for areas of the lab as directed by the Lab Director.
15. Clean laboratory equipment, operate autoclaves to sterilize glassware and instruments, and mop and scrub lab floors and counters.
17. Assists other laboratory personnel as workload permits without being requested to do so.
18. Perform limited phlebotomy duties when requested by the Laboratory Director.
