Job Description - Phlebotomist/Processor

We are seeking a dependable and motivated Phlebotomist/Processor to join our lab team at a busy family medicine clinic. This role supports daily lab operations and helps ensure accurate, timely, and compassionate patient care.


Responsibilities include collecting and processing specimens, registering patients, preparing samples for courier transport, performing and reporting point-of-care testing, maintaining quality controls, and assisting clinic staff as needed. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, excellent customer service, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment.


Experience with pediatric patients is highly preferred. Strong problem-solving, organization, attention to detail, and time management are essential for success.


Pay: Starting at $18/hour, with potential for increase based on experience 


 


Schedule:




  • Monday - Friday | 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM | 1-hour lunch

In this role, you will be responsible for:



  • Administrative duties: Providing excellent customer service, answering phones, and monitoring for instrumentation alarms.

  • Technical responsibilities: Performing venipuncture for blood collection, obtaining additional specimen types as required, and preparing all samples for lab testing and screening. 

  • Accurate data management: Verifying specimen information, performing data entry, and properly identifying patient information.

  • Specimen handling: Receiving, processing, and packaging samples for referral labs while maintaining specimen integrity.

  • Compliance: Following safety protocols, HIPAA policies, Medicare rules, and participating in quality assurance.

  • Flexibility: Covering work shifts at different sites as needed to ensure smooth operations.


Education & Certification:




  • High School Diploma or equivalent




Experience:



  • Minimum of 1 year of on-the-job phlebotomy experience required

  • Experience with pediatric patients preferred

  • Experience performing and reporting point-of-care testing preferred

  • Consistent employment history with minimal career gaps


Skills & Competencies:



  • Provides excellent customer service and is proactive in helping the team

  • Reliable time management and solid organizational habits

  • Able to stay accurate and efficient in a busy clinical environment

  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving abilities

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements: 



  • Laboratory setting with automated equipment emitting ambient sounds.

  • High level of staff interaction in close quarters; must hear alarms to ensure timely response to safety needs.

  • Regular handling of potentially infectious samples, with required protective gear (lab coat, gloves, goggles, face shield).

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, crawl, twist, and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the day.

  • Frequent bending, extended standing, and lifting up to 30 pounds.

  • Flexibility to work extended hours or overtime as needed.


OSHA Category: This role involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues, with Hepatitis-B vaccination offered to all performing these duties.
