Phoenix - Environmental Specialist

Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines is looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our Environmental Team at the Phoenix Mine. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving the site’s environmental management systems, with a primary focus on ISO 14001, Cority, environmental document control, and GIS.

The successful candidate will work closely with Environmental, Operations, Engineering, and other site departments to ensure environmental information is accurate, accessible, properly documented, and maintained in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.

Responsibilities: 

• Support the ongoing implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the site’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
• Maintain ISO 14001 documentation, records, procedures, forms, and associated environmental management system information.
• Support internal and external ISO 14001 audits, including preparation of documentation and evidence.
• Track audit findings, corrective actions, opportunities for improvement, and associated action plans.
• Assist with maintaining environmental objectives, targets, programs, and performance metrics.
• Support environmental aspect and impact assessments and evaluation of compliance processes.
• Assist with Management of Change (MOC) processes from an environmental perspective.
• Track environmental management system action items and ensure documentation is completed and maintained.
• Support employee awareness and training related to ISO 14001 and environmental management system requirements.
• Serve as a key user and administrator/support resource for the site's Cority environmental management system.
• Maintain the Environmental Department's document control system.
• Ensure environmental procedures, plans, work instructions, forms, permits, reports, and records are properly controlled and current.
• Maintain and update environmental GIS databases, maps, and spatial data.
• Develop maps and figures to support environmental permitting, compliance, reclamation, monitoring, and reporting activities.
• Manage environmental spatial data, including sampling locations, monitoring points, reclamation areas, disturbance areas, infrastructure, permits, and other environmental features.
• Support users with data entry, system questions, and troubleshooting.
• Performs other duties as assigned. 
• Manages budgets, including the budget for external ISO audits.
• Coordinates with supply chain personnel to procure contractor and consultant services, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Experience with compliance systems and ISO 14001 preferred
• Experience with PowerPoint, Publisher, Word, and Excel required
• Three to five years in a mining industry setting preferred
• Experience in Environmental compliance programs preferred
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required
