Physical Therapist

Position Overview:

The Physical Therapist (PT) at Chicago Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery plays a critical role in the healing and rehabilitation of patients with a wide array of injuries, illnesses, or chronic conditions. The PT will focus on improving patient mobility, managing pain, and facilitating overall health and wellness through tailored treatment plans. Our PTs are dedicated to providing patient-centered care, working as part of a collaborative healthcare team, and promoting active lifestyles for long-term well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment:

• 
  Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patient medical histories and assessments of functional capabilities.


• 
  Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare workers to integrate medical insights into patient care plans.

Treatment Planning:

• 
  Develop personalized care plans with clear goals and expected outcomes, designed to address each patient's unique challenges and needs.


• 
  Implement therapeutic interventions using exercises, manual therapy techniques, and assistive devices to enhance mobility and alleviate pain.

Patient Care:

• 
  Engage in hands-on treatment to encourage movement, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.


• 
  Instruct and guide patients through exercises and activities that aid in improving their physical abilities.

Progress Monitoring:

• 
  Regularly evaluate and document patient progress, adjusting care plans and exploring alternative treatments as necessary.


• 
  Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education on the recovery process and strategies to cope with challenges.

Education and Training:

• 
  Educate patients on how to manage their condition and maintain their health independently.


• 
  Teach patients and families about post-treatment care and exercises to continue their recovery at home.

Specialization and Collaboration:

• 
  Specialize in treating specific patient populations such as sports injuries, orthopedic conditions, geriatrics, or neurological disorders.


• 
  Work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide comprehensive care, including supervising the work of physical therapist assistants and aides.

Qualifications & Skills:

• 
  A Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited institution.


• 
  Active state licensure to practice physical therapy.


• 
  Experience in orthopedics, sports medicine, or related fields is preferred.


• 
  Strong analytical skills to diagnose patient conditions and develop effective treatment plans.


• 
  Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and work collaboratively with a healthcare team.


• 
  Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices and emerging research in physical therapy.

Physical Demands:

• 
  The role requires a considerable amount of physical activity including standing, walking, lifting, and demonstrating therapeutic exercises and techniques.

Work Environment:

• 
  The work environment is primarily within the clinic’s rehabilitation space but may include offsite locations for patient assessments and community outreach programs.
