Physician Liaison Manager
Position Summary
The Physician Liaison Manager is responsible for leading and executing physician outreach, referral development, and provider engagement strategies across multiple markets. This individual will oversee a team of Physician Liaisons while personally cultivating relationships with referring providers, healthcare organizations, hospitals, and community partners to drive patient referrals and support continued business growth.
The ideal candidate is an experienced healthcare sales and relationship management professional with strong leadership abilities, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of increasing physician referrals and expanding market presence. This position serves as the bridge between physicians, clinical operations, executive leadership, and the communities we serve.

Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Physician Liaisons.
- Establish individual and team performance goals aligned with organizational growth objectives.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, ride-alongs, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
- Monitor territory coverage and adjust assignments based on market opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Develop standard operating procedures, outreach strategies, and best practices for physician engagement.
Business Development
- Develop and execute strategic physician outreach plans that increase referral volume and strengthen market presence.
- Identify new referral opportunities through market analysis and competitive intelligence.
- Build long-term relationships with:
- Primary Care Physicians
- Specialists
- Hospital systems
- Independent physician practices
- Urgent Care Centers
- Skilled Nursing Facilities
- Home Health agencies
- Community organizations
- Represent the organization at networking events, conferences, medical society meetings, and community outreach events.
- Develop territory growth plans and identify underserved referral markets.
Physician Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for referring physicians and their office staff.
- Conduct regular in-person visits to physician offices to educate providers on services, treatment options, referral processes, and patient outcomes.
- Resolve physician concerns promptly while maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Ensure referring providers receive timely communication regarding patient care and referral status.
- Maintain consistent follow-up to strengthen provider loyalty and satisfaction.
Marketing & Brand Development
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop promotional materials, presentations, educational programs, and provider communications.
- Coordinate physician education events, lunch-and-learns, grand rounds, and community seminars.
- Promote new physicians, specialties, procedures, and service lines.
- Increase brand awareness throughout assigned markets.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Monitor referral trends, conversion rates, physician activity, and territory performance.
- Utilize CRM software to document physician interactions and track opportunities.
- Analyze referral data to identify growth opportunities and areas requiring intervention.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for executive leadership.
- Develop KPIs and dashboards measuring:
- Referral growth
- New referring providers
- Provider retention
- Market penetration
- Visit activity
- Revenue impact
Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Ensure physician feedback is communicated internally to improve patient experience and operational efficiency.
- Support new clinic openings, acquisitions, and expansion initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of healthcare business development, physician liaison, physician relations, or healthcare sales experience.
- 2+ years of leadership or management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success increasing physician referrals and market growth.
- Strong understanding of physician referral patterns and healthcare delivery models.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Experience utilizing CRM platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout assigned territory.
Preferred
- Experience working with:

- Office-Based Labs (OBLs)
- Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs)
- Vascular, Interventional Radiology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, or other specialty practices
- Experience managing multiple markets or regional territories.
- Knowledge of physician recruitment, practice operations, and healthcare reimbursement models.
