Role Overview
The Piping Superintendent directs all mechanical piping operations on large commercial and industrial projects. This includes planning and managing chilled water, hydronic, and steam system installations for mission-critical environments.
The role requires strong field knowledge pipefitting, welding, system layout and the ability to lead crews safely, efficiently, and with consistent focus on quality, productivity, and project performance.
Core Responsibilities
Lead and supervise pipefitters and welders installing large-scale piping systems
Enforce safety standards in rigging, welding, and pressure testing operations
Interpret and apply P&IDs, isometric drawings, and mechanical coordination layouts
Supervise hydrostatic and pressure testing along with quality inspections
Coordinate with plumbing and sheet metal trades to align scopes and schedules
Manage material deliveries, prefabrication planning, and site logistics
Prepare daily reports, test documentation, and as-built records
Mentor crews to improve productivity, technical skill, and teamwork
Participate in site meetings with general contractors and project managers
Required Background
5+ years supervisory experience in commercial mechanical piping
Hands-on knowledge of chilled water, hydronic, and steam systems for hospitals, data centers, or high-rises
OSHA 30 certification
Welding certifications, med gas credentials, or Master HVAC/Plumber license preferred
Proficiency with construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar
Ability to meet physical demands including lifting, working at heights, and confined spaces
Valid drivers license with ability to pass background, drug, and MVR screenings
