What you will be doing:
In this position you will contribute to the Juneau Field Office's promotion, development, and implementation of the department's capital program for the DOT&PF Southcoast Region. Under direct supervision of the Planning Chief and guidance of the Transportation Planners, the incumbent will conduct complex planning studies; compile project background reports, project status reports, project nominations packages, and white papers; and assist in the preparation and revision of Alaska’s multi-year surface transportation, aviation, and ports and other modal system plans and programs for a specific Southcoast Region planning sub-area. The incumbent will represent DOT&PF to assure that transportation facilities, systems, and needs are adequately addressed.

The office, centrally located off Egan Drive between downtown Juneau and the Mendenhall Valley, provides abundant parking, nearby walking trails, and a team-oriented atmosphere. You will be joining a supportive team of professionals that work efficiently and effectively together in delivering services to the State. As well as gaining knowledge and skills that will enable you to become a professional transportation planner and advance your skills as a leader.
Requires regular travel within the State (normally one trip of up to three days occurring monthly or every other month). Occasional out-of-state travel may be needed to attend conferences or meetings.

Planner 1

Project Management :

Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the

Planner

1 or Planner

2, or Planner 3 level

, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 or if filled at the 2 level, promotion to the Level 3 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
