Planner/Outside Purchaser

The Planner/Purchaser is responsible for planning projects according to customer specifications and internal estimates for manufacturing. This role also purchases materials needed for producing various projects.

Responsibilities:

• Review customer specifications and estimated specifications to prepare work orders for manufacturing operations.
• Determine most cost-efficient method for producing projects.
• Review instructions and specifications to ensure job will proceed through the manufacturing process efficiently.
• Review established job ticket instructions in ePace and recommend improvements.
• Calculate and provide layout impositions for internal and external use.
• Communicate with customer service personnel, sales representatives, and vendors regarding job specifications, work-in-process, and outsourced items production schedules.
• Perform reprint planning as required.
• Apply knowledge and understanding of requirements, limitations and workflows as they pertain to conventional and UV offset printing, packaging, digital, flexo and wide format printing.
• Apply knowledge and understanding of requirements, limitations and workflows as they pertain to prepress, bindery and finishing functions
• Apply knowledge, experience and research skills to qualify, communicate with and resolve issues as they pertain to outsourced production vendors and materials providers.
• Lead and/or contribute during any production meeting or planning meeting.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Practice all job, department and company safety procedures.
• Practice all job-related ISO 9001 quality procedures.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proficient MS Office skills, including working knowledge of Excel and data entry skills.
• In-depth knowledge of printing, packaging, bindery, and flexo manufacturing operations.
• Solid understanding of impositions and layouts as they pertain to offset, digital, and flexo workflows, including bindery and finishing processes.
• Must possess excellent type written, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Established skills in accuracy, organization, meeting deadlines and working in a high-volume environment.
• Demonstrated ability to support all other departments within the company.
