Join Our Team – Serve where justice and public safety meet. The City is seeking a professional, service-minded Police Officer to act as our Municipal Court Bailiff — a unique role combining courtroom operations, public safety, and traditional law enforcement. This position plays a vital part in ensuring court proceedings run smoothly while protecting City Hall staff, visitors, and the community.
What You’ll Do
As the Municipal Court Bailiff, you’ll be the bridge between law enforcement and the judicial process.
Court & Security Operations
Provide courtroom and City Hall security (in-person and virtual hearings)
Identify and coordinate court participants and witnesses
Maintain accurate contact records for court participants
Escort staff as needed for safety (including bank deposit escorts — no cash handling)
Assist during hearings and maintain order in court
Warrants & Legal Process
Serve warrants, subpoenas, complaints, and affidavits
Verify and clear warrants; update records and dispatch databases
Check jail rosters for wanted subjects
Prepare criminal and search warrants
Transfer legal documents between City and County departments
Testify in court proceedings when required
Law Enforcement Duties
Apprehend and process offenders and fugitives
Provide backup support to officers and emergency responders
Direct traffic at events, funerals, and parades
Complete incident and accident reports
Maintain patrol vehicle, uniform, and equipment

Knowledge & Skills
Federal & Texas criminal law, traffic law, search & seizure, and court procedures
Accident investigation practices
Strong verbal and written communication
Conflict resolution and safe restraint techniques
Computer proficiency (records systems, Microsoft Word, Zoom)
Operation of police vehicles, firearms, radar, and radio equipment
Familiarity with city geography

Sound judgment and discretion
Attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to de-escalate tense situations
Customer-service mindset with the public
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role alternates between courtroom, office, patrol, and outdoor environments.
Sitting, standing, walking, and occasional strenuous activity
Lifting light to heavy objects and using specialized equipment
Exposure to weather, machinery, and potential health hazards
Use of law enforcement equipment and vehicles
Interaction with the public, detainees, attorneys, and officials
Valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain)
Meet all Texas Commission on Law Enforcement standards
Good moral character and reputation
Honorable military discharge (if applicable)
Prior courtroom security experience preferred
