Division: Board and Management Services


Reports To: Director of Board and Management Services


FLSA Status: Full-Time | Exempt


Starting Compensation: $65,119 - $76,610 Annually

The Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) empowers more than 700 school boards and nearly 3,500 elected and appointed members across Ohio through superior service, unwavering advocacy, and innovative solutions. OSBA’s Board and Management Services division supports effective governance and district leadership by providing policy guidance, consulting services, and training that help school boards and administrators meet their policy, operational, and strategic responsibilities.


Overview


The Policy Consultant supports OSBA’s mission by providing research-based policy and school district management consulting services to member districts. In this role you will work closely with school board members, administrators, and OSBA staff to develop, revise, and interpret board policies; deliver training and professional learning; and ensure OSBA’s policy services remain responsive to evolving educational, legal, and governance needs.


What Will You Do?



  • Conduct policy-related research and assist in managing OSBA’s core policy services, including writing, reviewing, and revising board policies

  • Provide direct policy consulting services to member school districts

  • Advise and consult with board members and administrators on policy development, interpretation, and implementation

  • Write articles and develop publications related to policy and other Board and Management Services initiatives

  • Prepare and present training programs, workshops, and seminars on policy and governance topics

  • Participate in the development of divisional goals and the implementation of OSBA’s strategic plan

  • Maintain close communication and effective working relationships with the policy team, division staff, and colleagues across OSBA

  • Assist the division director or deputy director with budget-related and operational matters as needed

  • Plan, monitor, and evaluate current and potential division activities to ensure continued effectiveness, relevance, and responsiveness to member needs

  • Support marketing and promotion of policy consulting services in collaboration with other OSBA divisions

  • Develop new policies and procedures in partnership with association staff.

  • Participate in and perform assigned duties at the OSBA Capital Conference


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, or equivalent education

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

  • Valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills that support innovative recommendations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or comparable software

  • Knowledge of educational policy preferred


Work Environment



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Repetitive hand motion

  • Hybrid and remote work options may be available

  • Requires travel and occasional overnight stays for workshops and conferences
